How-To
The ways and wherefors of the program...Windows only.
The program is in Japanese, but it's not difficult to figure out what does what, it's a very simple program. When you start, you will have a small screen with a wireframe colored cube in it. To move it left or right, up or down, just drag the mouse in the direction you want with the left mouse button. To increase or decrease the size, drag mouse up or down with the right mouse button.
The menus:
___F is Files. __O is open, ___X is Exit. In order to load files, you have to have your Folder Options set to View Hidden Files.
____R is Render: the top ___ is wireframe, the bottom ____ is filled in (this is the option you need for seeing the colors of the characters.)
_____O is Options. ___P will bring up a dialogue: The first set of options ___, is flat color and color frame. The flat color lets you see the facets of the polygon easily, while color frame will thicken and color the wireframe. The second section in the dialog toggles polygon rotation. The third option allows you to set the background color the filled in polygons will show on. Clicking the button brings up a color picker dialogue. Then of course there's the OK an ____ (Cancel) buttons. The second item on the menu, ____> lets you pick a window size. ____D gives details about the chosen file...it's pretty much jibberish.
____H is Help...the only option on that menu is ___A, About, which will bring up an About window.
The row of buttons: They're kinda obvious, the folder is Open, the half colored half wireframe box toggles filled in or wireframe. The two hands pointing right and left let you cycle through each piece of the file: for instance, if you load up Cloud you'll see his head, torso, waist, upper and lower arms, upper and lower legs, feet and hands. The circle with the arrow toggles rotation, and the question mark is About.
All the player characters can be found on all three PSX disks in the file Enemy 6. Vincent's limits are in there too, as is the hi-res Sephiroth from the last battle...he has no eyes tho', and sadly, the hi-res Cloud won't load.
Cloud's pretty simple; characters like Vincent, Tifa, and Sephiroth have hair polygons to juggle (hair almost always comes up upside down) and Vincent also has a cape that has twelve sections. Tifa and Barret are missing one hand a piece: there is no way to load any weapons so there's no way to get Barret's gun arm or Tifa's gloves.
There's a quirk in the program that really only becomes a problem with Cait Sith, occasionally Red XIII and enemy files with texture maps on them, such as the Turks, Grunts, variations on Snow, and others. If they load up with really strange looking eyes, you'll have to reset the program. For some reason the program mistakenly does something like mapping Cait's eyes onto Reno's face, leaving him with really bizarre looking marks on his face and no eyes. It doesn't usually have a problem with the other characters.
Some files don't load and others crash the program. Sadly, Summons won't load, neither will Bizzaro Sephiroth.
For some reason the program acts funny on my current comp, but not on my older one...probably a matter of videocards; it requires OpenGL.
Anyway, have fun with it...it's possible to make workable characters using the incredibly powerful MS Paint, so if you have something better than that, you'll be fine ;)
